چکیده

Abstract: Detection of moving targets in nature is an important problem in neuroscience. In freshwater turtles, it is believed that the visual cortex performs this job. In this paper, a set of ‘moving fishes’ are considered and the visual data is compressed using a set of spatial basis functions. Input to the model cortex is this compressed visual data, and the associated cortical response is generated. This paper illustrates the role of dynamic motion reconstruction in a natural scene from the cortical activity waves using a bank of autoregressive moving average processors. Copyright c ©2005 IFAC

The influence of natural scene dynamics on auditory cortical activity.

The efficient cortical encoding of natural scenes is essential for guiding adaptive behavior. Because natural scenes and network activity in cortical circuits share similar temporal scales, it is necessary to understand how the temporal structure of natural scenes influences network dynamics in cortical circuits and spiking output. We examined the relationship between the structure of natural a...

Cortical Activity During Postural Recovery in Response to Predictable and Unpredictable Perturbations in Healthy Young and Older Adults: A Quantitative EEG Assessment

Introduction: To investigate the effects of predictable and unpredictable external perturbations on cortical activity in healthy young and older adults. Methods: Twenty healthy older and 19 healthy young adults were exposed to predictable and unpredictable external perturbations, and their cortical activity upon postural recovery was measured using a 32-channel quantitative encephalography. Th...

Image Reconstruction Guided by Natural Scene Statistics Predicts Many Aspects of Lightness Perception

The perceived lightness of objects remains consistent under huge variations in illumination. This requires that the visual system take one effect – the amount of light landing on the retina-and disentangle the contribution of two causes: the reflectance of surfaces and how intensely they are being illuminated. Solving such an under-constrained problem requires that the visual brain makes assump...

Improvement of the heave motion of a semi-submersible platform with damping sheets subjected to sea waves

In this study, the damping sheets were attached to a semi-submersible platform to mitigate the heave motions. We first examined a typical GVA4000 semi-sub under a monochromatic linear wave train in deep water. an analytical method based on diffraction theory was used to determine the heave motion response. The results revealed that the analytical results show good agreement with available exper...
